CEREC restorations are a reliable and fast way for patients to address damage or decay within the smile. This method is usually used to make dental crowns for new and returning patients at Centre Place Dental in Lincoln, Nebraska. Let’s discuss some common questions about porcelain dental crowns created using CEREC technology.
CEREC is the acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, which is the advanced dental technology used to create porcelain crowns in a single visit. This technology is offered at our office and is readily available for our patients to help speed up the process of obtaining a customized restoration.
Typically, getting a CEREC-made porcelain crown only takes one appointment of about two hours with Drs. Chris and Robin Post. This is significantly shorter than the traditional method, where a dental crown would require at least two appointments: one for preparing the tooth and molds and one for bonding the crown in place over the natural tooth. With CEREC dentistry, the restoration is made right in our office while our patients wait, allowing the entire process to be done during a single appointment.
Our dentists proudly offer CEREC crowns as part of their comprehensive dental services. CEREC technology saves time and reduces the need for multiple appointments. It also allows for a more precise fit and a stronger restoration than traditional crowns. Additionally, using high-quality porcelain material results in a natural-looking crown that blends seamlessly with the rest of your smile.
Most patients report minimal to no discomfort during the CEREC crown procedure. The process is similar to getting a traditional crown but without needing temporary crowns or multiple appointments. Our dentists use local anesthesia to numb the area before starting any treatment, ensuring a comfortable experience for their patients.
A CEREC-made porcelain crown can last up to 15 years or longer with proper care and maintenance. Good oral hygiene habits, such as daily brushing and flossing and regular visits to the dentist for evaluations, check-ups, and professional cleanings, are important. Avoiding certain habits, such as clenching or grinding your teeth, also helps prolong your CEREC crown’s lifespan.
No, there is not! You can eat and drink normally with a CEREC crown. Porcelain crowns are commonly known for their durability and strength, making them suitable for chewing and biting on all surfaces of the teeth. We encourage patients to avoid chewing on hard objects such as ice, as this can cause unwanted damage to the crown and possibly the tooth structure underneath.
