The teeth that are visible when you smile are the center focus of your overall appearance. So, when their appearance is marred by chips, gaps, and other imperfections, it can dramatically affect the look of your smile and face and how you feel about yourself. At Centre Place Dental, Drs. Chris and Robin Post provide care that lifts your spirits and boosts your smile. Porcelain veneers are just one cosmetic dentistry procedure that can positively transform your smile and well-being. However, veneers are a particularly popular treatment for several very good reasons. Our team in Lincoln, Nebraska, is pleased to explore some of those benefits, courtesy of the following FAQs about the veneers process.
Your teeth are covered by protective enamel, a substance that is stronger than skeletal bone. With the passage of time, normal wear and tear, and the effects of chronic habits (like chewing fingernails and grinding teeth), your enamel can become damaged. You may notice jagged edges, chips, and irregularities in the shape and size of your teeth that detract from the attractive balance and proportions of your smile. These concerns and other irregularities, such as stubborn discoloration and gaps between the teeth, can be corrected with veneers. Each veneer is a thin, carefully crafted shell of porcelain. Once applied and secured to the fronts of each “imperfect” tooth, veneers replace the damaged enamel and cover up excess spaces, small cracks, resistant staining, and more.
Veneers are designed to improve the appearance of the teeth in your “smile zone.” A full set of veneers typically consists of eight to ten veneers prepared and secured to the front surfaces of the visible teeth. For those with concerns over their back or chewing teeth, Dr. Chris or Dr. Robin may recommend restorative dentistry procedures such as dental crowns. The crown may be secured on the top part of the tooth that is above the gumline, and it may be an appropriate option for big cosmetic cases – such as completely reshaping a tooth. Additionally, veneers are only suitable for addressing cosmetic concerns. So, your teeth must be healthy. We will evaluate your concerns and the condition of your teeth and gums to determine if you are a good candidate for veneers.
If you move forward with this procedure, a very small amount of natural enamel is buffed off of the teeth that are to be treated with veneers. This preparation is essential; your veneers must have space to properly fit on top of the natural tooth. Once this step has been completed, we can prepare or design the veneers. Centre Place Dental has invested in an array of technologies to support the most efficient and hassle-free experience at our office in Lincoln, Nebraska. These technologies include the computer-aided CEREC system.
CEREC allows us to handle every step of the process of making veneers, inlays, onlays, and crowns in-house. We have eliminated the middleman (outside lab) so our team can effectively plan, design, make, and secure veneers in just one visit. This process would usually require at least two appointments. Once we have made your permanent veneers, they are fixed securely to the teeth using advanced bonding techniques and agents.
With good care, your veneers can last for 10-15 years or even longer. To find out more about this popular treatment and our distinctive approaches, schedule a consultation by calling us at (402) 438-5000 today.
